I just received my new Maxxis Mudders today. What are your personal opinions on the white lettering? Would you mount them with the lettering in or out?

I think the white gives a more classic look, but for a more sleek or modern or tougher look I say the white facing in, I have the white facing in because I felt it looked better that way, especially on a black truck.

I just got some white outline tires on my 'ol Wag, and since I grew up in the 70's and 80's, and my '85 Camaro Z28 has the BFG white letters out, I figured I put them out on the Wag. But they're white OUTLINE letters, so they really don't jump out at you. Remember, however, that after a trail run you won't see any white. And you may disfigure them against the rocks. I may have put them in if they were solid white letters.

You do what you want. You'll probably get less ridicule with black out. If they look too tacky you'll get some smart cracks. But since when did an FSJ driver give a crap what anybody else thought about his rig's appearance? If YOU like it, enjoy it.

Definitely blackwall out.

You missed a good opportunity for a poll you know.

just say NO to white letters on buckshots.:D

quick question while we're on the subject. do you think the buckshots are more aggressive than the bighorns?

i have been eyeballing the buckshots myself, but, the bighorns have an aggressive sidewall lug. just curious on your opinions.

I put all my letters in, I don't advertise for anybody unless they are paying me!

If the tires don't perform, it don't matter if they've got letters or not.

In or out is personal preference and it's never really mattered to me at all.

on a truck like yours put the letters in.

Mike, on a sweet ride like yours I would definately go black out!!!

I won't vote. I like black out but if it's white outline I prefer that. Don't like solid whit. But I do care.

It really depends on the rig. Serious rig=in, Street rig=out, Dual purpose=either. I ran mine out because it goes well with the look of my White GW. Don't kid yourself, everyone will still see the white letters when their in, and personally, that doesn't look good either. If the tires have the letters, run them out.

IF you use your jeep off-road, white letters look like crap after about the first trip.

In.

Go to Feb 8 thread about aftermarket wheels. Lots of pics with letters out and in.
And in reply to letters out! Have wheeled for years with letters out, and they still look good. Agreed I don't rock crawl to much, but with a little tlc they will look fine for a long time. It still depends on how you use your rig, most of the time!

if you like the white letters out just buy the pen to put the white back on after a wheelin trip. they also come in different colors:D

My personal preference is for solid white letters to face out. Outline white letters to be turned in.
Sorry I didn't vote due to the fact that I don't know what type you have. But I like your truck and think it would look cool with them out, if solid.

CHROME??? Not me Dude. No disrespect for Scott "The Chrominator". But, you must be thinking of someone else. I'm not much on bling. I have the AR Outlaw II aluminum modulars. Used at that.
But, because I couldn't find black steel 9/16 shank lug nuts, I had to break down and buy the chrome lug nuts. If there was a way to paint over the chrome without the paint peeling off, I would.

And no Tom, they don't have the solid white lettering.

Anyway, Thanks Guys for all your input and the poll. I think the black walls will stay out. I do take it off road. So, I don't want it to be confused with a Mall Crawler.

Here is my lil' theory, Vintage or classic style American vehicle White wall out. American Hot Rod or Muscle car White letters out. Far as the wagons go,I'd say go White wall (stripe) out if you are going for the clean restored American classic look. Rim dependant for the wagon I vote white letters out if you occasionaly wheel and the truck does double duty as city daily driver family hauler,Activity transport. Now for downright lets get dirty (muddy) trail hittin' rock crawlin, off-road mostly mean bad-A machine. Real off-raoder or you just want the look. I say black wall only. That's my take and I'm stickin' to it....until somebody tell me better:thumbsup:

Mike, the white letter's go in.

Nope, these haven't been flipped yet. That costs money.:D I used a black drymarker to go over all the white stuff.

Mine are out for two reasons, 1 they did not ask me when i got them put on and it does look good with the white paint on the truck. other than that it take more cleaning to keep them white and i don't like to detail my rigs much.

here is the end all solution to the problem:

run one side white out and the other side white in.

you can't be on two sides at once, so you won't look mismatched!

FWIW, i have black out on my chevy and white letters out on my jeep. dunno what i'll do next time with the jeep, it will depend on the rim i guess.

I voted "don't care" because I really don't care whether the rest of you have your lettering in or out; you are free to do whichever you like. I feel that my opinion isn't gonna make much difference to most folks anyway.

As for my own preference I will keep the white lettering in. I do this for the same reason I don't place bumper stickers on my rides. I don't care if I'm running inexpensive Coopers or out and out burn-up-the-bills Pirellis or Michelins. Perhaps on a forum such as this I'll discuss what tire brands to use and what I'm using, but as for the general public it is nobody's dam business but my own what brand I'm rolling on the road. :D

i figure on newer rigs letters out, for classics like ours, letters in - & then stripes out are even better!

black out! one reason, is if you have a flat and have to use a spare that is not the exact brand.. it looks horrible. And how many of us have a complete matching spare? I don't.. besides not like they are paying you to advertise either.

Lindel

On the left, white out on the front, black out on the rear. On the right, black out on the front, white out on the rear. Now you're politically correct and incorrect all at the same time.

really depends on the color of the truck, dark colored trucks fit better with them in, brighter colors or spensive paint jobs are better out.

I voted that I don't care.
It depends on the vehicle but personally I think fsj's should come with whitewalls.
Here's a photo that tonkaj200 jazzed up for me. Big tires and whitewalls.

Usually I mount my whites out, until I gotta change 2 of the 4 and end up with 2 different brands, then I put them all in.

This one is real easy. Just get a blood test.

If you have high Testosterone, white side in.
If you have high Estrogen, letters out! :banghead:

It also depends on if your are still in highschool or not. In=out, out=in.

My general rule is no white letters out after labor day and then on easter you can switch them back.

White letters out is ok up to a 33" tire. Anything over must be blackwall. Whitewalls are only good for street tires and gw's
