Im pretty sure, but prolly am wrong, but I think that in all states if you had one from the factory, you gotta keep it on. Dunno tho. Thats what my dad says.

We get it really easy in minnesota. No emissions tests for any vehicles. No Cats required on vehicles older then mid-80's. I love it. But i think that the ex-pos facto law states if your vehicle didnt come with something that is now required (ie seatbelts) then you do not need to have them. So if your truck didnt come with a cat then it dont need one.

If you're in Mesa, (Maricopa County) you will need a catalytic converter. Why do you hate them? You can get a new, high-flow catalytic converter for $100 almost anywhere and I doubt you'd even notice the difference between it and a straight pipe.

if it cam with it originally then yes. my buddy ran a 79 trans am through emissions a few years ago and passed the smog, but they failed him because he didn't have cat's:mad:

X1.

There's not much of a reason to not have one. The new ones flow well and youre cutting down emmisions at the smae time. just my .02
