does any one how the door sensors on a '74 work..mine have never worked so i pulled one out and it had no wires on it..i checked them all an none of them had wires on them. i figured they must have wires..so where do the wires come from so i can reattach and try to make them work

The door switch is a pin switch that shorts the wires to ground. My driver's door switch doesn't work any more, but a friend of mine that does home security gave me a switch that has a "normally open magnetic" reed switch that will do the trick, and best part is that it is sealed with no exposed contacts to corrode. You might be able to find a replacement pin switch at an auto security place.

so these door sensors have no wires at all?...can it somehow be convertered to the later style with wires like on my '84?

My guess would be that unless someone for some odd reason pulled the wires out the originals are just laying down on the bottom in the rust and muck behind the sill plate between the outer/inner sheet metal.
