another idea for a toolbox mod

I got another idea for a toolbox mod. This is sick, I'm not even close to done working on the engine, bumper, fenders or anything else and I got more ideas that I'm planning for.:banghead:

I want to install a toolbox but I want it to be permanent. I figured I'd mount a set of drawers on the bed. I also don't want 3 steps in the back so I also want an insert to use when the rear seat is out to keep the bed area flat and easier to use.

I drew up the basic idea using MS paint so I know what I'm looking at and posted them on my pic web site. No measurements, just the basic idea

Check it out and tell me what you think. Unfortunately you can't expect to see the finished product anytime soon. I have more ideas then I have time or money.

I always figured it'd be cool to try and sink a toolbox in the rear cargo area. Just mount the spare tire on a rear tire carrier and put a lid in the floor over a box bolted to the frame. No loss of rear cargo space while still having your tools.

That is exactly what I'm thinking of. I'd like to put mine over the bed floor so I'll lose about 4 inches of bed height and keep the stock tire location, but these rigs always seem to be an inch or 2 short anyways so whats another 4 inches. There was a thread a couple months ago about making a toolbox under the bed floor. I liked the idea but I didn't like getting rid of the stock tire carrier, especially since I still have stock sized tires and can still use the tire carrier for now.

Nice. I initially had a bit of sticker shock and started to wonder if there were plans somewhere out on the web of how to build your own, but when I started to think it is a tuffy box and the extra security would give peace-of-mind for the tools and such when left unattended. I might have to look into that some more.
