Does anyone know where I can get a new distributor for a 258AMC? Carrotman suggested a Chevy HEI modified to fit my 6 cyl.

You can a rebuilt stock dizzy at any auto parts store but the HEI conversion is really the only way to go.

Where can you buy a new or rebuilt distributor? I'm guessing it should be for a Chevy 250/6, that's what the HEI upgrade page says. Then it seems that all I need is a different gear for it. Will I have to replace the plug wires, and ignition coil like the page says too? All that stuff is pretty new. I've searched sites like Mallory, and Accel and distributors for AMC 258 motors don't exist!

You just need the 250 I-6 Chev dizzy and the gear from a AMC V8. The coil/ign mod is already on the cap if you get a complete one. Get the wire plug-in too if you go to a boneyard and yes you'll need new HEI type plug wires. It think the ones from a 300 I-6 Ford will work. I bought my dizzy complete from Ted Wendell here in the forums.

Thanx guys, I found Z&M site. So is there any kind of "fool proof way" to make sure this is really the distributor? I mean Iv'e spent countless $ on stuff that probly was o.k., I just don't want to dump another $?????.?? in , and find out....it's STILL doing that!!!! Not that I don't mind upgrading smile.gif but my company just closed our plant and I'm a little short of $ right now!
