Well I managed to break the NV5600 in my Dodge and the Crew Cab was mostly bare metal so I decided I needed to at least get it primed so I could get it outside and get the Dodge in. It looked pretty good primed so I said screw it and went ahead and painted it that day. The body work is way less than perfect and the paint job isn't the best either but its done for now and if I want to redo it in a year or two I can. Hope ya'll like it. Now I just need to get my windows in and an interior done and it will be about ready to roll. On a related note does anyone have a headlight bucket that will work with my grille? If so let me know. Later, Blair

Thanks for the compliment! The tires are 315-75-16 on 16x8 Cragar soft 8 wheels. The front is sprung over wagoneer the rear is stock 73 J truck height. Later, Blair

If you spent 6 months doing primer and paint I could guarantee it would look better than this. Its a 20' truck. As the saying goes, from 20' away at 60 mph it looks real good. The bodywork was not really completed when I ran out of time so I just roughed it out and shot it. I have some connections so the total cost on all the paint was about $120. I am trying to keep a use whatever you have, lowbudget attitude on this truck. It will work just fine for now. Blair

I used an airless sprayer. Graco 395 with a fine finish 410 tip. The autobody guys will shake their heads and say "Oh bad idea that'll never work" At least the ones I talked to did. But I doubt they have ever used one. And since I paint houses I have used it a lot and I also do cabinet work so I have used a pressure pot setup quite a bit as well. In my opinion the airless worked better for me. It was faster put on more product and it is a lot less likely to run since you don't have to thin as much. Of course this is assuming that we are talking about someone doing this in their garage like me. For that purpose it works quite well. On the other hand most people don't have one of these in their garage since they are kinda expensive.

Blair-

Sweet rig, since I havn't been arround in a long time do you have buildup pictures? I have intended to build a J20 crew cab or Cherokee Long trac for too many years, but never got to it, I have enough parts now :)

I dig the long rear doors! :fsj:

They look like '715 doors. That truck is absolutely beautiful. All it needs is a sportside bed and some stripes  The grille looks great on it too.

On some of his old posts you could kinda tell it was the J-Trucks door spliced in with the Waggy's rear door. Just search for all posts started by Blair and you'll find the pics.

I am curious what the wheelbase is.

Awesome truck. Take LOTS of pictures and post them... or send them to me and I will host them. I am gonna have to make one of these for a tow rig someday. :D

The window has me confused. It doens't match up with a Waggy door or J truck door, it does match an M715 door, but why splice in the J truck door?

More legroom in the back I'm assuming. Think Dodge Megacab. :D

Shoot yeah man. 12 valve Cummins, 5 or 6 speed manual, Atlas tcase, D60/14bolt and some 37s would make a sweet tow rig.

The guy that started the build moved the wag fixed glass to the front of the door. Need to square up the waggy rear doors to match the cab back. You can add whatever length you want when you splice them together. I stayed with the stock length when I did the ones on 24K, so I would not have to spend $ for glasss, felts, wipes, etc., and dealing with the regulator.

That makes sense now... sort of.

Would it not be as easy to remove the fixed portion of the window since the glass would have to be cut and the assembly fabricated anyway?

goldhammer
02-08-2007, 12:04 PM
In reality, if you get in that deep it would not be that much more. You could also make the fixed glass bigger and use the standard roll up.

12valve cummins and OD manual trans are a must. I don't think I would put an atlas in a tow rig though. 1ton rear would be a necessity but you could also get a HD44 for the front and be just fine. I don't think I would go higher than 35" tires for a tow rig either. The brakes are going to be taxed as it is with that heavy of a truck hauling a trailer.

Yeah, I just threw the Atlas in there because if you're dreaming might as well dream big right. ;)

As long as that thing is though...35s would almost look small.

They would look small... but the intent isn't to have ground clearance or axle clearance. IMHO anything less than 54" boggers will look small on there! I am just thinking more purpose built than utilitarian built.

Good catch on the gas filler. I am surprised noone else has noticed it yet. The gas cap is inside the left rear taillight assembly. I want to drive this truck to Oregon where the law is you can't pump your own gas when I get it done. I will yell, "fill her up" to the attendant and then rush inside like I need to use the restroom while he spends half an hour looking for the gas cap  I am not really a nice person. You guys got the doors figured out I think. The rear seat on a wagoneer is not fit for fullsize people in my opinion. There really isn't that much legroom. This truck is gonna be really nice because it will have good legroom. That is a priority when you are 6'4" It certainly isn't big like a megacab though. Those are huge. I am not sure if I am going to retain the flipped vent window or not. One piece glass would be nice if the stock motors are capable of handling that kind of weight. Its going to be pretty easy to get done either way I go. Oh yeah for, TexTJ209, it has 35's on it now. They actually look about right in person. Later, Blair

Now am I right to assume this to be a converted wagoneer if so my hats off to you that looks great. If not how long did it take to find a crew cab.Still hats off though looks good. Now that I read it instead of glancing through wow that is cool My hats still off to you in my opinion you did the hard work cause the glass anf finish is the hard part the welding and the building yet hard compare none to the finish.Kinda like the difference between a ruff in carpenter and a Finish carpenter not all can do it.
