What reman engines have ya'll used and what do you think of them? I'm going to change mine and wanted some input from ya'll before I made a decision.

Stay away from Jasper. I've had three trucks come in with low mileage Jasper motors and all three has major problems. Look on Ebay, thee a re a couple of guys on there that do AMC's prices somewhat reasonable. I know some people on here don't like Pepeboys or Advanced reman engines, but for the quality that's in them versus the quality of Jasper compared to Japsers high price, I would roll the dice. Figure it this way, if something does go wrong you probally have extra parts ot fix it.

mine is a Recon, used to be sold at both Autozone and Pepboys, I think autozone still carries it but I am unsure about Pepboys, the only issue I have had with mine is that I seldom drive mine which led to lifter failure, put new lifters in it from Maddog Racing and all has been fine ever since, now I will have to admit is wasn't like it was an overnight thing, the motor has been in the truck for close to 10 years and I only put the lifters in about a year and a half ago, I'd say if I drove it more consistently I wouldn't had a problem, but who knows.
but on a different note, if you have the time and can find someone to rebuild yours, or do it yourself, you will probably be in the same ballpark $$ wise, as a reman motor but it depends on your situation, i didn't have the time to wait so i had to go with a reman.
I also second staying away from a Jasper, mine buddy put one in his wag close to the same time I put one in the J and his started to puff blue smoke only after a year or so

I've heard too much bad about Jasper and the price was too much. After goggling it and looking at some of the sites all of them said about the same thing. although i found one that said that it puts an rv cam in. They are all about the same price also. I guess it goes back to the old addage that you get what you pay for. My other motor was ok except for a broken bolt and easyout in one of the heads. but with 80k on it i decided it would be better to just change the motor then just the heads. Add to that having to drain everything because its been sitting for at least 3 years. you get the pic

The best route IMO is to find a local shop that will rebuild your core. Should be about the same as a quality reman.
Check out local shops and ask around. Ask about prices, guarantee, and what will happen if something goes wrong. Talk to previous customers if you can.

Ditto stay away from Jasper.I saw a similar thread a week or two ago that has a link for a rebuilder, and they really did'nt have bad prices on AMC's.Do a search for this time frame-manufacturers,rebuilders,etc........

Started checking around today. Hopefully I can find someone that is reasonable.
