I was wondering if I get some pictures of winch bumpers that are on trail trucks. I need one for my J10 and I was thinking some kind of tube bumper, but I would like to see what people are running. Any pics and information would be a big help.
Thanks,
Rankin

Have you checked out BJ's website? You can see a couple of different type of front bumpers there for ideas. Or you can buy one if you want.

Yeah thats about the only place I've found that makes them. I don't think I would buy one because they seem to be so backed up in their bumper department I wouldn't want to bother with that.

backed up? The Killer32's are available now as are the pre-runners. Dozers / Cliffhangers are close to being ready.

I was wondering if you have the Cliffhanger front bumper for my '72 J2000? What winches is that bumper compatable with. Im trying to find a vintage PTO style or if I can't find that a Warn 8274. Let me know.

I always look for ways to gain clearance, greater approach and departure angles. Has anyone ever thought of relocating the radiator.
If you installed electric fans and eliminated the clutch fan and shroud then you could extend the radiator mounts and move the radiator back a few inches. this should allow you to tuck a winch further back inside the engine bay (no grill of course) and eliminate some of the winch overhang and get a better approach angle.
Is this doable or am I dreamin?

I've thought if this kind of modification was doable or not. It sounds like a lot of work though for a winch. I would like somethink similar to the Offroad Design's Chevy tube winch bumper for a starting base. If you have any pictures of what you are running for a winch bumper please post them up for me.
Thanks,

I have an electric fan and I will tell you unless you get a thin profile ($$$) electric fan... the electric doesn't gain you much as far as clearance like you are talking. If you were able to get a lower profile water pump stub for the fan pully and a lower profile fan pully in combination with the electric fan, that might be the ticket but lots of money.
FWIW, my electric fan HAS been hit by the bolt heads on the fan pully and self-clearanced.
As an alternative to the winch in the bumper... Ethan (FSJ Guy) on here has installed a Ramsey Hidden winch mount on his M715. Here is the link to his writeup (http://www.bigscaryjeep.com/BigScaryJeep.com/Winch.html).

Kinda cool since it uses factory threaded holes in the front of ALL fsj frames... bolt on kit. Unfortunately you will have to have some luck in finding one to use.
Personally, I am going to do something VERY similar to this only my winch will be upside down (compared to Ethan's) and the mount will run just under the crank pully. I think this setup gives the best compromise between approach angle and winch useability.

That's a pretty cool winch mount. I wonder what it would take to reproduce something like that.

Yeah thats one way to do it. I just wouldn't want that setup because if you got nosed up against a ledge or nose down in ditch or in deep mud the winch will always be under the truck and that can make it hard to get to. I like the thoughts and pictures though keep them coming.

Take a look at some of the winch bumpers off of the Toyota FJ 60/62's. Man-a-Fre, Slee Off Road, Cruiser Outfitters, etc should have something that would also accentuate the body lines.
I wouldnt hold my breath on getting a BJ's bumper...I held my breath for over a year.

Are you saying that FJ 60/62 bumpers would fit a Jtruck? I understand that they won't bolt up but as far as being the right size and everything these should work?

No one has any custom tube bumpers out there? I like the look of the ARB but I would trash it after a while of wheeling.

I think thed ARB's are very stout, maybe even 1/4" IIRC. I think you would have to trash it very hard before you hurt it.
I might as well pimp my winch bumper for ya....its not a tube bumper and its not an arb. Its made from a winch bumper and a brush guard that would not normally work together.

The bumper and brush guard were for a Chevy truck. The price was right. You can't tell from the photo but the horizontal bars at the top have an angle that nearly matches the FSJ snout angle. I want to trim up the bumper for better approach angle, then I'll be happy.....not really.
I will have a winch soon though. I have to lay low for a while since I shot my wad on a tool for the shop today.
Here is one I built recently....obviously the winch plate is not welded in yet but you get the idea.

Thats not a bad looking bumper. What did you build it out of. Are you going to do anything else to it besides a winch plate? Thanks for the pics.

Any info on the top bumper on the rack? Is that a one off or a production bumper....

Thanks.
1 3/4 HREW .120 wall. I am going to gusset the stinger with two more pieces of tubing and add a fairlead mount.
