Just caught a minute of an old Trucks episode where Stacy puts in an overdrive unit on the Copperhead? It had the ZZ572 and TH400 in the SS themed truck. Anyways so could something like this be fitted behind the TH400 found in an FSJ and still keep 4WD? Would it help the MPG's any or am I barking up the wrong tree? Only wondering because 99% of the driving I do is interstate driving.

I saw a used one on Ebay a few months ago supposed to hook up to a 205. It went for close to 3K

Since you say the driving would be 99% highway, why not consider a Mile Marker part time conversion with 16% OD?

If you had a Dana 18 transfer case, they made an overdrive unit for one of these. Way back in the late Jurassic.

I was throwing around the idea of putting in a second tranny with custom oversized gears just for that reason. I was told that people have tried and it does work but a lot of people run into reliability problems.

Reliability, fabrication skills and imagination are your only limiting factors to any mod you wanna do.

I had no idea they were that pricey! I thought they were something common you can grab from the boneyard as alot of the newer Ford trucks I've worked on have 'em. I guess I'll just have to save up for that PT kit but until then I can do without it.
