Engine: head gaskets, compression loss in 1 cylinder, water pump, heater.
1 rear leaf spring - broke
1 center body mount - broke (i think the bolt snapped)
1 tranny mount - "
U-joints - finished
electrical system - "something, very, very wrong.."
2WD / 4WD - unestablished cause (vac mot/xcase)?
"A slight front end wobble."

Needs: electric revamp, "new door", headlight switch, etc. etc....

Good news: ....

j/k ..... "Frame is in great shape, brakes are good.

Final score: (not including engine work) $1500 CDN labour, 500$ parts, and no garuntees about engine.

The mechanic pleaded with me not to do it. Scared of a little jeep? i said.... "No, but do you really want a 2000$ heap of scrap metal?" redface.gif

If this guy is willing to turn down a $2000 paycheck to tell you "Son...it just ain't worth it." He may be doing you a favor and is one of the good guys. If the shop has a good reputation you might at least think about his advice.

There is another possibilty also that he knows you don't have two grand and he doesn't want to get stuck with the heap when you can't pay? ;)

Having just dropped some $$$ myself, let me add: I was a lot happier with the shop that gave me an extensive list of safety and handling issues than the three shops before that (two of which were dealers, no less) that assured me everything was "ok" after a supposed safety inspection.

I can decide for myself whether to keep the car and spend the money, but I can't make that decision unless I know what's wrong in the first place. I'd rather have a mechanic whose financial interest makes him overly critical than one who wants to "save" me some money by ignoring a questionable brake hose.

hmmmm... maybe you need to take it back to the guy you got it from ? Especially if you need to DRIVE this thing everyday.Or, if it"s NOT a daily driver, slow down and fix all this stuff yourself over time. You will learn a LOT and save a lot of money in labor. Let's face it, when someone else does repair work, most of the cost is in the labor. You should be able to find all the parts you need either here or on Ebay for free or cheep. Third option, part it out, get what you have in it back out, keep some of the good stuff for the NEXT Jeep and most likely even make some $$$.
Keep in mind, what you decide to do depends GREATLY on if you need to drive this thing NOW and what you have invested in it up to this point...
Good luck! smile.gif

Good luck! smile.gif Actually, i've put 1000$ so far since october(mostly parts, some labour) but the decision is made by: a) i have a better one back out west, b) gas money makes it barely worth it.
