I asked this under tfi, but it must have gotten lost in the large number of messages.

After reading the dicussion on tfi, I plan to do it, when I get the chance. (still waiting on crank kit repair). Searching for more info, I came across this site, which was very helpful to a novice like me.

Has anyone tried this "juice box" kit? I know you can probably piece it together cheaper, but I like the idea of buying all the parts in one place.

Just wondering.

That is ALL the same stuff for the TFI listed...EVERYTHING can be bought from a local parts store for less than the $119 they are asking... and you will have your own listing of part numbers for future reference if something needed to be replaced....

I did this upgrade on a poor week for under $25 at the local pick-ur-part. I have since bought a new cap and rotor. The coil came out of a V6 T-Bird but there are a large # of V6 and V8 Ford vehicles that use the same coil assembly but I cannot remember if the 4 cylinders use this coil or not. The used coils I have now (i grabbed a couple of more later 1 for my j20 and a spare) work just fine at a fraction of the cost, cleaning, bracket and paint included. This was a great low cost upgrade that eliminated an irritating miss that I have always had in both vehicles and improved startup 100%.

Yup, they even credit Team Rush, who are the ones that made the original article that the tech library has, as being the ones they patterned after. I would buy all the stuff myself, then you know what quality of stuff you are getting, or you can even "upgrade" a little. That's what I did. I got the 8.5mm wires and some MSD parts.

I did mine local too.Looked up the parts I needed and bought them local except for the MSD 8.5 wires which I ordered from Summit.I used a Conrad cap&rotor which is the same quality as MSD's.It's even same color.

Thanks for the input. Since my mechanical experience is about twenty years old & limited to 67 & 70 VW's, I thought this kit seemed a safe way to go. When I get my wagon back, I'll try it your way.

Everyone is very helpful here. I learn something every day.

Thanks

I looked at the juice box kit when he had it on e-bay and it was all stuff like Wells which is the cheapest import junk you can buy. Looking at the web page it appears that he has upgraded the package a little.
BTW the 4 cylinders did use the same coil.
