View Full Version : lodging & which trails for 07
I saw the link to the lodging and was wondering how it has gone in years past. I'd like to do the hotel thing (chipeta sun lodge is nice in Ridgeway) what time and where does everyone usually meet in the mornings before the ride?

It is our desire to be headed to the trails by 9am from KOA. If you cruise to the back aspen area around 8am, you should have no trouble finding FSJ friends that you can join for the fun.

Around 8 a.m. last year, it sounded like a plethora of hibernating bears back there...
I agree on getting out of camp earlier. I am planning on a Black Bear to Telluride to Ouray via Imogene again this year, if anyone's interested. Maybe we'll miss a thunderstorm or two, eh?

I will be up and at it by 8am. Those who are not ready to hit it by 9am can run with the second shift. I will be up for that run with you too Kenny. Black Bear is a kick in the pants! And I have not run Imogene from the other side yet, so that sounds effin bueno!

We keep talking about wanting to run the loop to Lake City via Engineer and Cinnamin passes. Maybe we should make that another run. It is an all day ride and I hear it is just as wonderful with the views.

About this invasion, how would a factory cherokee do? Does it need anything special or would it make it with factory specs and lift? I might attend, just don't have any special equipment vehicle, just stock.
All questians can be answered here

The biggest problem is vapor lock and over heating yiou are climbing pretty much all the time. Rather than fill this thread up since it is about lodging, why don't you start a thread yourself asking your questians that way others can chime in if they know what you are asking.

Yessir, that sounds like a great plan. I've never done that entire loop before either. If we leave early enough we can have lunch in Lake City. I think it's quite a bit longer than the Black Bear then Imogene loop, so we'll have to get an early start.

Agreed Kenny. For this one, I think we want to leave KOA between 7am and 8am.
So, 2 days are accounted for. I know this thread about lodging, but we are on a roll now. Anyone want to speak up for day 3? Poughkeepsie is always in discussion and it provides a nice obstacle for those that want to test their FSJ rock climbing skills at around 12000 feet... ;)

Did the lake city loop with Phil last year. It was a nice drive, but took only about half a day with a few stops and late lunch. Just before lake city you can cruise 40 for a few miles. And after lake city to the other side of cinamoniman you can cruise too for a few more miles. Really don't know why they say it takes all day. It's good smooth road.
We hit rain so didn't stop at a few places.
I'd like to do it again.

..
Ralph;
You are correct!
But on some days oncoming traffic can add to the time to do the trails.
We already have PICs and videos and don't have kids and dogs to worry with. At my age I have to hurry 'cause there ain't that much time left...:D
... I don't like to make a lot of stops, in fact I kinda like to race to the top of the passes, stop, look around for a minute, then see how fast I can go down with out sliding more than one wheel over the edge of the cliff. This is while eating chips, dips and with a hot cup of coffee between my legs!.
... With Doris in the truck I have to slow down because she can reach the ignition switch. I removed the locking pin in the steering column so I wouldn’t crash. I think it’s because I’ve done these trails more times than I can count. On the other hand city freeways scare some good sense into me. :omfg:
Have a good one, ;) and Carry on.. Don S..

No, no, no, Flint, you don't have to shut up. You bring up a valid point (not that the passenger side has ever complained about it:D ). I do get in a hurry sometimes to get to where I'm getting to. We'll work on that this year.

Hopefully tomorrow night when I wire from the hot terminal on the battery to a switch in the cab and then back to the hot side of the coil. For some reason Brutus won't stay running with 6.00V at the hot side of the coil... I just don't get it :banghead:

If you can't make reservations with KOA or one of the local hotels, best contact someone with a site and see if you can share. I couldn't believe how packed the KOA was last year. No wonder they only hold the reservations for the "Full Size Jeepers" until the first of the year.

It's OK to be cornfused Ralph. I have a tent I keep pitched in the Land of Cornfusion. ;)
So, what this means is we hit the black top for the trailhead no later than 9AM each morning. Those who don't make muster can stay at the KOA and play checkers or take on one of the many trails on their own!

Like said...If you put off reservations too long you could miss a spot near us. BUT if that happens, each tent site IS allowed up to 2 tents and 2 vehicles. That means asking to share a spot. No Problemo.
I also hear the Agave Brothers (Kenny & Jaime) will have the Party Spot at 47D this year!

Hmm, that is interesting. We tried that last year with my aunt and her friend, and was told the "If they are not immedate family, or children they have to get their own site" We were going to share a site with them and KOA basically said "NO"

Now, there is a certain truth in this. Dave never threw up the "immediate family" thing with us before. Now that we know, we can just tell them we are all one big immediate family! Brothers, sisters, in laws, out laws, etc... Don and Doris S can be parents for a few of us. "so, who is yer Daddy?" Heck Yeah...
