Having not worked on much else besides old Jeeps & pick-up trucks I am somewhat confused. Is there such a thing as having two CV joints on one side of an axle on a front wheel drive car? A mechanic told me that the INNER right CV joint was failing on my wife's rice-burner. I have never heard of 2 CV joints on the same side of an axle. Am I being fed a line of BS?

Tha's right, most of the front wheel drive and front independent suspension of the fourwheel drive cars and trucks have these setup.

It is unusual for an inner CV joint to go out but it does happen.

Sounds like it got a rip in the boot. That kills these CV's fast cause all the grease comes out and dirt gets in. Sometimes you can save it if it hasnt been too long. Are you or your mechanic fixing it? I have done many of these and its not too bad.

i had the same thing happen to one of my cars several years ago. it was cheaper to put in a rebuilt half-shaft (both cv joints and the shaft inbetween) than to have them rebuild the one cv.

Don't waste your time rebuilding it... buy a new one and get the warranty for life...

for sure. they're not much more expensive than rebuilding it(if not cheaper). plus...new is better than rebuilt =)

Thnks for all the advice. I went ahead and had the entire axle replaced for $150.00. I guess that's not too bad. Anyway, it will keep my wife off my back for a while.

the inner cv joint goes out when you have problems with the motor mounts so check the moto mount
