Belive it or not I tried searching and couldn't come up with the answer I was looking for.

I have a 1971 wagoneer and I need to lift it. I am convinced a spring over and shackle reversal are my best options (since it's a post mount lift) I did a SOA conversion on ym CJ and wanted ot know if it's similar to what I could expect out of my wagoneer. Is it as simple as measuring the SUA angle, buzzing the perches off and re-welding the perches to the top taking care to get the pinion angle the same as in the SUA configuration? no need to rotate knuckles? this leads me into my next idea. I knwo the front end is junk, it's a closed knuckle drum braked old POS. What would be a good candidate for a front axle swap? I would like to keep the width around the same so I don't have to change out my rear-end to match.

speaking fo rears...I have a dana 44 out back, offset diff. is this axle any good/ is it a 30 spline or 10 spline? I have read up on how to shackle flip the wagoneer but nobody ever mentioned of it's a post mount lift. does it make a difference whcih spring setup you have?

Thanks for all your help!!

I have a '72 that I just swapped out my closed knuckle, drum brake axle for a a chevy front and rear. They're a bit wider, but the difference in braking, plus the SOA made it perfect for me. The front axle was a bolt in, but I had to go with a 4" dropped pittman arm to get the steering right (I couldn't find an arm for anything as old as a '72, but I took a chance on one listed for a mid '70s Jeep and it worked great).

Your rear Dana 44 should be fine for most purposes, though I don't know what the spline count is. There are some other threads here about doing a shackle flip on post mounts. I didn't do it on mine because the lift springs that came with mine are too short to make it work right.

Hell Creek makes a 4" lift for post mount Wags. Anything else will require at least some welding.

I'm ok with welding, My budget is seriously lacking though. I'd rather have a flexier SOA setup, can you just by the rear springs...that could be an option for me.
