got a 1980 chief with a th400 tranny (i think)its starting to slip really bad. what can i do thats not gonna cost me an arm and a leg??

If you have a 80 then you have the TF727. Email gsmikie. He is the resident tranny guru.

change the fluid /adjust the bands/check linkage then see how it shifts

when my 727 went out last year for a complete rebuild, hard parts and everything was out the door about $1700 this was at an AAMCO

I just did the filter/fluid change(twice because had to replace a leaking pan)Adjusted the bands and the throttle valve linkage.World of difference in shifting.

dnixon should of said somthing i go to pismo all the time my daughter is there shoot we could have rebuilt your trans for about $90.00 1980chief pick up a chilton your going to need one anyway it will tell you how to adjust the bands it easy and it will tell you how to set the linkage shoot that is the only reason i keep buying cars so i can get a new manual (old school) he he he he he he he can you hear me now ??????
