View Full Version : Help Dana 60 carrier Question

Im going to have my Dana 60 rear welded up tomorow (until i can afford a locker) should i take it out or do it in the housing? if i remove the carrier will i be able to get it out with out a case spreader?or for that matter will i be able to get it back in?

Not to rain on your parade or anything. But that ground clamp should have been attached to the carrier. He may have inadvertantly melted the babbit off of portions of your carrier bearings. Which will lead to deep pitting and failure. Bearing for the most part do not like electric shock.

LOL yea you should never ever clamp the ground on anything that you are welding that is isolated with bearings or moving parts. It could weld them solid, or pit bearing races and bearings. Good news is you don't have Babbit in your carrier bearings, bad news is you may have pitted races or Rollers........................good thing you don't have Ball Bearings there though............because I could think of nothing worse than pitted............well you get the idea :p

ya ****it i never thought about the bearing concern:( i was more worried about splatter and slag..........oh well i drove it home about 35 min drive and changed the fluid and i will do so again in a couple days.....
