Gas gauge ?

Does the gas tank need to be grounded (metal tank of course) for the gas gauge to work?
I pulled my tank to fix a leak and undercoated the entire tank to prevent further rust. Now the gauge does't work. Any thoughts?

I dont know if the tank itself needs to be grounded, but there is a ground whire off the sending unit that needs it.

gotta have a ground. metal tanks ground through themselves to the frame. Add a ground strap.
