I had my Jeep painted in a two-tone scheme with black on the rockers and lower part of the doors. Apparently you get what you pay for because the black paint on the rockers was peeling off of my $900 paint job.

I considered Line-X, but the $500 quote about floored me.
I considered Durabak/Herculiner, but I was concerned about the fading and permanence.

What I ended up using is a black textured vinyl. It comes in 6" wide rolls. I had it professionally installed for $90! It's cheap, looks good and a lot easier to remove than bedliner if I decide to do something else. The other nice thing is that they can cut the "Cherokee Chief" lettering out of it.

It's been on for about a month with no signs of peeling yet. I'm anxious to see how long it holds up to the elements and pressure washing.

Before and after pics (sorry 'bout the dirt in the after pic)

I don't know. I had a local place called Brite-Line do it, and he just called it textured vinyl. Here's their website http://www.britelineinc.net. I think they use it as a non-slip application, but it doesn't have that gritty silica sandpaper feel to it. It looks and feels like bedliner. Any vinyl graphics place should be able to find it.

The problem I see is every older vinyl top vehicle I see has a problem with rust. I wonder about this appilcation

I don't see that being an issue. The rockers are still primed and painted (even though the black was peeling off). It's an adhesive backed vinyl just like the OEMs use for pinstriping and graphics.

Had mine done below the wood and under the grill w/Superliner, matched the paint really well, no fading or rust issues and took a shopping cart like a trooper yesterday. Not cheap, but worth the protection to me.

Automotive grade vinyl is great stuff. many underestimate it but its cheap, can look great, and is easy to redo if it ever does peel. I've got a friend who runs a buisness mostly working in vinyl for signs and automotive stuff. It can last a long time as long as its the uv resistant stuff and applied correctly. congrads it looks great.

A few weeks after the initial install I noticed some peeling where the pieces were spliced. I took it back to Brite-Line and he redid that section at no charge. It's been over six months now and the stuff still looks like new with no peeling whatsoever. Keep in mind I have a 3000psi hot pressure washer here at work that I blast it with about once a week.

All U-haul trucks cargo boxes are auto grade vinyl and the newer ones the cab graphics are vinyl too. All the trucks we sell are not painted white either, but rather giant sheets of white vinyl. U-haul calls it Tedlar tho. Takes you awhile to learn how to decal around corners and such without it wrinkling but you get good at it eventually. I started off at U-haul as a van body specialist and did all the decaling on the trucks.

Looks great BTW! Oh and another one here wondering if youre single lol
