I don't know if anyone recalls the SOA discussion about the possibility of adjusting caster through the use of different upper balljoint threaded inserts; anyway, I found this source for an adjustment sleeve that permits up to 1.5º of adjustment:

http://www.specprod.com/PROD_DIR/C_PROD_TRUCK_SEARCH_DYN.cfm?cmd=Cas&cmd2=23000%2A&cmd3=48%2C77

It's not a lot of adjustment, but it might just be enough to get back some caster if the pinion was angled up to reduce front-end vibrations.

WOW!!!!! Finally somebody found what I was talking about!!! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif You made my day Bob!!!!

If I remember correctly... I was close and said 2 degrees....hehehe. Thanks for the link.. I have saved it for referenece.

Speaking of SOA's.... I am still debating wether or not to leave my axle rotated the way I have it or back off some and use shims....this way I leave myself room to "play" with the angles more....

Now that you found "that" adjuster...has anyone seen the spindle shim???? This a a tapterd plate that goes behind the spindle on the D44 open knuckle stlye axle.

This can be used in conjunction with the above sleeve to correct steering gemmetry even more.... I will go look,,,, and look... http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks again Bob...

They also have a couple neat tools. One is a special socket for adjusting that insert, and another is a spindle-puller that saves you from having to beat the old one off with a soft-face hammer. They don't provide a direct link off the application page, but they list the number of the suggested tool; if you plug that number into their search feature, it brings up a picture of the tool and a description of its operation.

I'm glad you could use that information; I had that link in my bookmarks for some reason, and just happened across it last night while looking for something else.

Bob...just reading your posting on Caster. I worked in front-end alignment for sometime and you can also try Ingalls Engineering. They sell kits and wedges to increase the Caster. Don't expect alot of results though,,more than likely your vibration is coming from somewhere else like tires, or other front end components that are worn..Caster is not a tire-wear angle and you would really have to bump it 5 or more degrees to notice much difference in your steering (mostly return to straight line) and if you already have power steering you won't notice the ease of turning when stopped or parking...I still have some friends in the business if you need more help..good luck

Charley
