Hi:

I have an 1988 GW. I was thinking about taking out the big fan and putting in an electric one with a thermostat. Has anybody done this? I can't seem to find the factory specs on the original fan. I wouldn't suspect it would be a big deal if it pulls the same CFM. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Why are you thinking about changing over to an electric fan?

You will need an enormous fan or multiple fans to cool as well as the clutch fan. SAVE YOUR MONEY!! A properly working clutch fan cools just fine.

I check my flex-a-lite fan catalog and they recommend a part number 150 for a V8 and a part number 116 for an 6 cylinder.

I just mounted a pn#150 in my 79 Cherokee and it works like a dream. Easy to wire and the thermostat is adjustable.

The specs are as follows: 18"x16"x4.25", Fan diameter is 15", fan rpm at 13.5 volts is 2200, 8 blades with a 26 degree angle, 2800 cfm airflow, 13.9 amp draw, A/C relay included and comes with a universal bracket.

The cheapest place to get them that I have found is www.summitracing.com. (http://www.summitracing.com.) Hope this helps!

why don't you just find an electric fan off at a junkyard and add it to your existing fan, much cheaper, and very cool, literally..

If I was going to add an electric fan, like tuck said, would it still be the same size as TPI said, or would I need to go smaller.

Well I am half temped to add a electrice setup, but for whole different reasons
than anyone metioned so far. I want the Jeep to get up to temp quickly ( My
winter Jeep), and am thinking a electirc job would keep the air flow
though the engine compartment down some, atleast for those critical 10 min or
so when I am trying to get the frost off of the inside of the windows and the
out side temp is -20. I don't think the fan clutch releases very well untill
it warms up some.

Electric fans are great for deep water crossings. You can shut them off and avoid a wet distributor and a stalled jeep in midriver.

I put a block heater in mine. It's like parking in a heated garage. the one I got goes in one of the heater hoses. I didnt even notice a jump in my electric bill.

Ditto on the engine plug in heater, plug mine in every nite in winter, and the heater is blowing hot air before I leave the driveway. Plus saves the drag on your starter. My wag has a factory block heater plus the one in the radiator hose. MG :D :D :D
