Hi my name is Andreas and i live in sweden.. I just bought a 1976 j20 double cab from the fire department.. It has the 258", a four speed manual tranny, dana 60 rear and 44 front.. It has only 15000 miles and is almost rust free! I wonder if anyone knows how many double cabs that are made? I also wonder if it is unusual in the states?

Let me be the first to say

:worthless:

I had to do it. I'd love to hear some info on this double cab J-20 and how it ended up with a 258.

Edit: sorry, Phil, guess I'm the second to say it!

WOW! I hate you...Just kidding.

You have the US equivalent of a hens tooth. Next is...

:worthless:

The running gear is all familiar, you will find all the info you will ever need on the drivetrain/power plant, on this site. Body parts should be the same from the front door latch, forward.

Many here would kill for one of those...with rust!

Oh and 'Hey' from sunny SC.

From what Ive read there are no known factory double cabs in the USA.

If that is indeed factory then thats a pretty rare truck to own, and with that kind of mileage possibly the most valuable J-truck in the world.

Here is a 1977 Crew Cab J20 from Sweden that was posted here awhile back:

AFAIK, the only other place i've seen double cab SJ's are the videos from South American countries.

Wow! I would love to find one of those! I have seen the threads where folks built them out of 2 rigs or a wagoneer and a J-truck, but not a factory one.

I have seen a couple of old IH crew cabs. They look like they sag in the middle.. I like the SJ version much better.

What is shipping cost from Sweden?

you basicly have what most of us would love to have and some try to fabricate. I for one would love to see pics of such a highly prized beast, and welcome to the family

double cab Jeep Pickups were made in Aregntina by IKA, S. Korea by Keohwa, and in Australia by a company called queensland customs. In europe fire departments frequently modify their vehicles like this, so this is probably custom built by a local company.
IN aregntina, a pretty good number of the vehicles were made. I dont know how many were made in Korea, but only the military used them. As far as i know only 4-5 of the australian vehicles were made. So you have a truly rare vehicle on your hands.

Welcome to the board. Sounds like you have a really nice Jeep there - in my idle moments I've wondered about making a double cab. Anyway, just to re-iterate what the others have said: Pics! Pics! Pics! (we like pictures on this forum).

That is one sweet truck! Every essence of that rig is custom, I just wonder why it's got a 258? Is there a PTO driven pump onboard?

The vin nr says it came with the 258" from the factory.. The pump in the back is driven by hydralic pump under the hood.. the pump under the hood is driven by a belt from the crankshaft.. Thank u all for enjoying this truck! I will give it nothing but love!:)

Wow, that's a great truck. If it's custom, the shop did an excellent job - notice how straight the rocker panels are, like they are one piece, no obvious seam in the roof, rear doors fit well.

Nice rig-FSJeeper has mine now and the only difference in the cab is the style line just above the drip rail currently would drop down to the drip rial at the "B" pillar rather than going back to meet the vertical style line behind the rear door.

Goldhammer, I'm picking it up from Hammer off Shasta mountain in nor cal 1st week of February. Can't Wait!
I've got the 3500 crewcab chevy frame stripped and drivetrain and axles are ready to go. I am chomping at the bits to get going on this. I'll make you proud and thanks!

FSJeeper, I wouldn't say 'stole', but yeah, I got that one. I was tired of watching it SIT!
I do like seeing this double cab sitting out front here though, maybe I WILL do something with it ;)

The truck has been a smoke dive vehicle (is it called that?, u have to excuse my english) so the top of the rear seatrow has been removed.. They had the oxygen tubes mounted on the wall.. The info that i got right now is that it was in full service between 1978-1999.. The first two years it was sitting at the dealer in Malmö (a town in the south of sweden) After 1999 it was used by a fire dep. in a small village to the middle of 2003. After that no one used it until i bought it.. Some stupid a hole decided it would stand outside next to a golf course.. Thereby the broken windshield..(Í found two balls in the truck and two more between the cab and the bed) Thankfully it has only one small dent in teh middle of the hood.. It has a 500 litre water tank in the back that i plan to remove..

I´m gonna do more research of who might have build this truck and then i come back to you all.. Thanks for the all the positive reactions!:)

Very interesting truck.
It also very interesting that there is a a speedometer in kilometers and the oil pressure still in psi. Kind of thought that might change but admittingly I have never seen a non-us spec dashboard.

it goes forward... havent got any pics yet but i removed all the hydralics, pumps, hoses and the water tank.. was a bit rusty underneath the tank but lucky me, no holes.. i have also removed the whole (i dont know the word for it but the "thing" that was on the rear.. so now it is a clean bed.. i found a tailgate today!! has been a difficult job in this country.. i almost were ready to order one from the states..

I also have some problems with the gauges, only the amp was working.. removed the whole thing just to find out there were som metal pins on the backside that was broken.. haven´t figured out what to with that yet.. any ideas?

I´m gonna order some new wheels by the end of this week.. have got a good price on blackspokes with general grabber at2 265/70/16

I have also decided what color it will have... military green

I´ll post pics as soon as possible... god i wish i were a millionaire:)
