My mechanic wants $2775.00 for a rebuilt unit, Does anyone have a recommended place to get a new/ rebuilt unit for less. I had it go out last weekend and the mechanic says that most of the parts look good inside?! But the case has a hole in it. I am new to all this so I would appreciate any help.

Either take dennis up on his offer or go to a junk yard. That's a rediculous price for a t-case. You can get a brand new Atlas case for less than that!

Wow.
I thought quotes of $1200 were way out of line for quotes for rebuilt units; I guess the extra $1575 is for delivery to Newport Beach, CA... ;)
For that price, you can buy a low-mileage GW, drive it back to CA from wherever you bought it, and pay somebody to strip the transfer case out and bolt it into your truck.
I'd get a second opnion, at the very least.

Yeah...I'll bet he'd like to get that. smile.gif I'd like $800 for rebuilding a carb too...doubt I'll get it though smile.gif
Shop around for a used one or at least another shop, preferable one that does this a lot and doesn't rely on D-C for parts. I think the stealerships want something like $400 for the VC and $300+ just for the chain :(
