View Full Version : ECI 2007

Here is the definitive ECI thread.
Hosted by the Carolina Full Size Jeep Club
Where: The Uwharrie (pronounced U-R-E) National Forest, Troy, NC
http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/uwharrie/index.htm
When: Thurs. June 7 - Sun. June 10 2007
Fees: Trail pass, $5 per day per vehicle.
Camping: Camping is free at the Badin Lake Group Camp, for Thursday thru Sunday. There will be no group camping on Sunday night. Participants that wish to stay can make arrangements through the reservation center, for the other camping areas.
http://www.reserveusa.com/
Primitive (trail or roadside, no convenient facilities) camping is allowed in the forest for free as well. Many folks camp trailside throughout the year.
Who's invited: All of the members of this forum and anyone with a passion for the big daddy of Jeeps!
What to wheel: Most of us have FSJs to wheel, not all of us. You are invited to bring what you have and have fun regardless of what you're driving. We only make fun of the baby Jeeps for a day or so.
And the ricers forever. :D
What to expect: Good wheeling and lots of laughs...that is if MC shows up again!
Most stock GWs can wheel even the harder trails. Using the by-passes, we have had success getting stock rigs to the playgrounds of rocks.
There are trails for just about every level of wheeler.

Casey you could have tripled the amount of people who showed up last year if you just would have advertised on popular web boards. I dont know if this will be my 4th 5th or 6th year going to ECI but you can plan on having me there for wheeling and chuckling. I will be bringing the mini bikes of course :D

I might even make it in the Comanche again. I seem to be getting to every other one of these, after all.
MJ should be different this year- not a little stocker this time. 3" lift, 31" MTs, 4.10 gears, dual lockers, 4-wheel-disc brakes...
I might (MIGHT) be buying a travel-trailer this weekend... I might even bring it along and not have to sleep in the bed of my truck again. Not entirely sure I want to pull it that far though, or break with tradition

I'm thinking about going myself. Almost every time I talk to Woodchomper (Rich) on the phone or at lunch, he keeps bringing it up. He's been to the ECI before and I haven't.
Anyway, it might be good to get away from home for a few days. I just hope my J10 will make it without any problems. With all the money I have sunk into it, it better.
We'll see.

I can fill my tanks before I get there but once I get there and run out of propane, I want to be able to refill and ride some more. Not sure about my range yet. Was not able to run a full day at Tellico with going through both my tanks. Of course the campground at Uwharrie is much closer than Tellico and Crawford's. I would like to be able to wheel a few days atleast.

Well Propane is about 110 Octane. There is a little bit off mileage loss when put on a stock vehicle. When I rebuild, I will build to the 10-11 to 1 compression or so to take advantage of the octane rating. Plus I run 2 10 gallon tanks and you can only use 80 percent of each tank. That only equates to about 15-16 gallons when the stock GW tank holds 19. Plus I had to rewire my TFI coil to get rid of the resistance wire. The TFI coil needs a full 12 volts to fire properly. This should help in the mileage.

My OX is on order... it will go straight to the guy with my XJ D44 and 4.10 gears for set-up. Then I have to drive the MJ over and have him weld new spring and shock perches onto the axle and help me mount it.
I also have to get a new t'case shifter, and I am considering running turning brakes!
I *might* do some fender trimming and run 33x10.5 TSLs.
No travel trailer yet, so it's either sleeping in the bed or a tent. Depends on whether or not I go solo.

Whether or not I make it, or what condition the truck is in if I go, is really up in the air right now.
If someone wants to buy a 3.92+ D44 Detroit Locker for $450, that should about cover the cost of gas. I have someone down here that said he would buy it but seems too incompetant to put a check in the mail :(

Holy crap! I havent checked you guys in a few years. I registered tonight. My grandfather left me his 1974 J-10 in 2000 with 60,000 on the OD, when I got out of the Coast Guard. I found two more and purchased them quickly. I had to quit driving G-daddys ride b/c 6 MPG. I will be in URE come hell or high water for the invasion to check out your rigs. I'll be driving the orange TJ. Let me know if you need any parts. Neal

Unless a miracle happens I won't be making it this year either. I threw my back out yesterday and I can't even think about working on my jeep. I got the doubler half tore out and I still need to finish doing that and put a new clutch in. I really thought this would be the year to come back. Oh well, there's always next year.

 That sucks. I was really looking forward to meeting you and the Chero. I hope your back gets better on it's own. I feel your pain.
Not to mention, I heard there may be some magazine coverage. ;)

How many times has your back gone out? Have you seen a doc about it? That sucks!

Too many times. I do know that. I'm going to do my best though. I figure if I say I can't go then I won't be disappointed if I don't make it. I'm going to try and fix it regardless. If it happens before June 8th then I'll roll in. I still have to put in a new leaf spring (I know it's not much but I have to send the old one back first) and get a high output alternator so I can support the taurus fan.
BTW, what magazine?

One of the Primedia mags. Not JP.
It's only a rumor at this point. It may however, turn out to be good intel. :D

Sweet! I remember years ago I wrote all those mags a letter and asked them to come to the first one. The letter may have shown up just a few years late.

The only one I've missed. We had our first kid that March and I couldn't make it.
I've made some great contacts and have some even bigger plans for the future. I'll be letting the ECI '07 cat out of the bag this week.

No not yet. It might get brought up at the club meeting next weekend. But whenever we do plan it, if we do, we will post a thread here about it.
