An "in the box" Holley ProJection 2Di at $500 verses the TPIGuy's TBI at $950....which one would you go for?

I'd use the TPI guy's setup, the Holley I had was junk, no cold start mode, no altitude comp, and idled to fast all the time, just my 2cents.

M4203, was your Holley analog or digital? No cold start mode on the Holley? That does push me over to the TPI option

I've seen both systems at work, and to me the technical advantage goes to TPIGuy due primarily to the spark timing control in his setup. He uses common GM ECM's and burns EPROM's for the particulars of an AMC 360.

I know that JeepJake has never really been happy with his, despite TPIGuy's excellent customer service. There seems to be a problem finding the right mapping for low-end acceleration.

Then again, I have a friend whose 401-equipped CJ had similar low-end sluggishness with Howell's system, which is also GM-based. Sure, it could be the 39" tires under that rig...

If you buy the Holley kit, do yourself a favor and plan on obtaining their upgrade kit to use the Commander 950 ECM. That way you can attach a cheap laptop and map the fuel/spark curves to your own liking. You won't have to rely on emails and phone calls with either Holley or TPIGuy, and the subsequent waiting for newly burned chips.

I would hold out for the new Edelbrock fuel
injection system for AMc V8s coming out 2004.
They have some info on the Edelbrock web site
under "new products".

Other advantages to TPIGuy's GM system will be over the counter parts availability throughout the country; and, if you have a problem, pull into the nearest GM dealer and they can plug the computer into the service port.

I don't know a whole lot about the differences in setups, but Indy Heads has a fuely setup too.

Never had Holley, but endorse the TPI set-up, for the reasons mentioned by Ralph. Low end acceleration not a problem on my 88GW.

JeepJake lives in Boulder, so I think he's coping with a base elevation over 7k'. Any closed-loop EFI will compensate the air/fuel mixture for general running.

But at altitude there's also less vacuum available to alter the spark timing when accelerating from a standstill. I think TPIGuy has been trying to mimic the factory ignition curve, which is probably fine at lower altitudes but not a correct map at higher elevation.

My buddy with the big CJ just sold me his MSD Off-Road ignition in favor of installing a DUI distributor. He's very happy with his Holley TBI now. Davis set the distributor up with pretty extensive consideration for the environment in which the engine will operate. So my plan is to buy an MSD distributor and customize the mechanical and vacuum advances myself.

I looked at the Holley setup but decided on the customefis kit. Reasons, designed for the wagoneer the wiring harness plugs right in, ECM controls spark, runs closed loop(dont have to map fuel), self diagnostic with light codes or computer, everything comes with the kit, all you need is some time to install it, custom made adapter plate for what ever manifold you have, every parts store has parts for it. If you want a kit that you install and don’t have to adjust anything other than sending him some data and installing a new chip (1-minute job) then go with customefis. If you like building and messing around trying to make stuff work and want to manually map fuel etc then the Holley kit might be for you. Just remember that the price diff is not that much for difference between the two kits. The customefis kit costs more because you are getting a complete setup that does more.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your opinions. I will take them to heart.

Ralph mentioned no "chip burning" needed after installation (with TPIguys as is. Nor the Holley, given a Commander 950 ECM.)

91waggy said "don’t have to adjust anything other than sending him some data and installing a new chip (1-minute job) then go with customefis."

A small contradiction there, but I may have mis-interpretted something.

I guess I will be waiting the six week leadtime for the TPIguy then....
