My GW 360 is blowing huge quantities of oil into the air cleaner. In addition, the T connection in the breather hose melted away. I replaced it with an heater hose T and it melted again.

Is this just a sign of serious blow-by and time for a rebuild or is there maybe a breather valve causing this?

Check your PCV valve and hose. If they get plugged you will get all kinds of oil in the breather, as well as oil leaks everywhere.

I am not sure which T connector you are talking about. Are you sure it is not part of the air pump system? I know that if one of the check valves goes bad it will let the exhaust go through the air hoses and melt your fittings.
