The Rancho shock bushings do not have a metal sleeve on the inside. Should I pull them off of the old shocks? Also, I would think the larger tube should hang from the chasis because it is heavier. The Rancho Q & A page says functionally it doesn't matter. My thought is that if and when the boot fails, at least the water can drain downward.

Sorry for posting questions that I think have already been covered. I still can't 'search' either in IE or netscape. If someone can point me to the earlier posts, that would be cool too. :(

With the new poly style bushings, the metal sleeve is not needed. As for the orientation of the shock, most people hang'em with the piston down so mud and crap will run off (just like you said).

The Rancho 5000 s that I just bought have regular ole rubber bushings.
Are the new ones coming with poly? or are lots of folks simply buying an a kit and swapping them?

I would have thought for off-road, rubber would be preferable.
