I never knew there was an air system w/ compressor on my jeep ------------- It wasn't there when I got it. Do I need to keep all of those vaccuum hoses running everywhere or can I just eliminate that ERG valve and most of those others running to and frow. I am asking for any info on successful elimination. I am from West Virginia. We have no exhaust laws, with one exception the muffler is not allowed to drag the ground. Solution is coat hanger. Ha Ha. I sure would appreciate an info on what is really needed for the intake to operate. My vaccumm advance on my distributor does not work. Perhaps because there is not enough vaccuum without the compressor thingy(which I don't have and have never seen). ALL INFO APPRECIATED.

First of all welcome! Whilw I live in CA and have all the emission equipment other around here have pulled alot off. We need the basic info from you however like what year, what engine etc. The more info the better. You are better off WITH the vacuum advance on your distributor working no matter what ya got. The air pump has nothing to do with the vacuum advance working. The EGR is something that is pretty easy to keep functioning. Why do you want to eliminate the emissions stuff anyway?

most of the emmisions crap effects the fuel/air ratio, so removal will change the mixture. the carb is set up to compensate for all the meddling by the smog stuff, and may not provide the correct mixture under all conditions without it. however, i took all mine off when i went to fuel injection, and i have had no problems. imho, keep the pcv system and the heated air intake system, scrap the rest, and be ready to tinker with the carb. also, fix the vacuum advance.
good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Well thanks SpruceMoose and Reddog for the info.
My wagon: 1988 Grand Wagoneer, 360 4WD, fully loaded. It has been ridden hard and put up wet. I have replace the block, radiator, TFI coil, MSD ignition, 3" leaf spring lift, new carb-mistake should have changed to a throttle body-@#$%^&^!, new oil pump, fuel pump, and probably a whole lot of other things I can't remember right now, but that's the jist of it.
Today i removed the EGR and some kind of steel tubing running into the intake, from all the carbon build up looks lik the exhaust side I hope. If not there is something seriously wrong. the port was almost complete sealed off with carbon build up. Plus looking into the valley pan riveted on the bottom of the intake i could see that it was completely full built up carbon. I clean everything the best i could got alot of stuff out and put it back together. Hope this does not hurt anything. My distributor's vacuum advance does'nt work. It runs just as good if not better with it disconnected. The way it is postioned does'nt allow a good connection when hook up anyway. I think it crimps the hose because there is too little space between the distributor and the power steering pump.
