Great pallet. Don't forget to take care of the rust. This will be your worst enemy.

ALL cab rust will soon be taken care of, a good friend of mine is going to exchange bodywork for landscapeing with me :D im just going to leave the bed how it is since it will have a flatbed eventually when it gets a 44/14bolt combo and 40's, thats also when i hit the lottery:rolleyes:

When going with a lift kit, don't buy the cheapest one, you'll regret it and hate it.

Keep your powder dry and look for a used softride type like skyjacker or superlift. I recently sold a newish 4 spring setup for less than $400.

yeah the red is painfull, one day when its done with new axles and 38's it will eb repainted, for now the color and pinstripeing is staying, and i would rather buy a used skyjacker or soemthing like that. im trying to spend under 500 for a full 4" lift. think its possible? also does anyone know any info, sites, or books on teh carb? i beleive its a motorcraft but i can check when i get home, it idles rough and i would like to make it more reliable before its on the road :drivin:

Sure, I sold mine for less than $400 and probably closer to $300, can't remember. I have seen top shelf high quality 4 spring used kits come up for sale from time to time at the for sale section here and they seem to go for $300-$400 for a used 4 spring kit. That is your best value cause they are already broken in and nice and cushy.

Looks like a good basis for a nice rig. Keep us informed as to how your work goes on it. My jeep is also red, and nearly as disturbingly bright!:D

WHAT!?!

Superlift 4" lift springs for FSJ have to be the absolute WORST lift springs on the market:eek:

The leaves have NO taper, they flex bad, and they ride worse....and yes, this is experience talking here.

The Trailmaster JP25 springs are cheaper and WAY!! better.

You're kidding right? You are going to run 40" tires on a D44 front axle in a FS truck?

BTW - sweet truck. :drivin:

I would rather weld the axle right to the frame than run superlift springs again. At least the ride would be softer !!!!!!

Also from personal experience.

Did anyone experiment with the Superlifts by taking out 1 leaf or anything? I just got a complete set up from the junkyard for $133.00, shocks and all. I haven't installed them yet, but I drove a U.P.S. truck for 13 years and currently ride golf course equipment with no suspension at all. I guess I will wait before I buy tires, by the time I'm done this might not be a 4" lift after all!

hey head honcho, it still idles real rough, think i should take the carb to get looked at? i gave it some carb cleaner today and it idled alot sooner without haveing to keep on the petal, got any 4 inch lifts?

Run a can of Sea Foam through the carb, cleans out lots and lots of stuff (get ready for a bit of smoke when you do it).

The fun is just starting. Lots of time and $$$ to invest. Get it running good first.

yeha i don't wanna pop its offroad cherry till i get it running alot better. is seafoam sold at like an autozone? do i spray it in while its running? before? or after? and when it smokes from it is that good or bad? lol

i love seafoam, it worked really well for me when i had my piece of junk carter carb. if you do need to get the carb looked at, keep it on the truck and bring it to steve's fuel systems in hilltop right on the blackhorse pike, i went to him a few times and he made a huge difference just playing with the choke and air fuel mixtures, and he only charge about 30 beans.

I am thinking that you and Jode got a bad batch of springs or something... Mine ride nice and soft even without shocks (of course it could be the bias ply tires, brand new rubber spring bushings, SOA, brand new besttop seats or that I just have the perfect combination of all of them at the same time). Mine flex perfect... as in they won't go past flat... Of course they rode nice when I was SUA too though.

and of course my avatar pic...

From my experience, I would definately buy Superlift 4" springs again. They rock my truck!

You know... come to think of it, it could just be personal "feel" preference or something like that. I don't run a sway bar front or rear but it is because my springs are stiff enough to keep me upright without them. If you went with super soft springs you might consider getting front or rear swaybars for on-road driving.

The more I thought about your initial post and the actual truck you have brings to mind only one truck to compare too! Bright red paint, lift, tires, flatbed etc...

i hopemine looks that good one day. i picked up some seafoam, im gonna try it over the weekend. my buddy who is really good with cars stopped by and said i need to fix the exaust (which i know of) and that it would run alot better if i fixed some vacuu lines, he thinks some may need to be plugged, any help with this like a diagram would be appreciated, i don't care about emissions so i would like to take every emissions peice of emissions junk off, anyone got a list of what i don't need?

Brutus, have you ever driven other FSJ springs? Your pictures tell all about the quality of Superlift springs. A good leaf spring tapers down in thickness as it gets towards the end of the leafs. You can see in your pics, that the Superlifts do not. I'm not saying they are incapable of flexing, but you may be surprised if you ever installed a different brand of lift springs under your rig.

Either way, Superlift springs are definitely not in the same class as a softride spring.

The Zone has it. It's not a spray it's a pint can of fluid. Warm up FSJ, remove air cleaner cover, SLOWLY pour about 1/2 can of Sea foam directly into carb, keep engine running until the smoke stops. It will smoke quite a bit you'll look like a mosquito control truck for about 15 minutes while it's cleaning all the gunk out of engine.
Before you do oil change (about 200 miles or so before) pour the other half can of Sea Foam in crankcase to help clean out engine.
This stuff isn't expensive and seems to work pretty well.

A good friend put a 4" Superlift on his wife's 81 Cherokee Laredo WT a few years ago. It rode like a rock under your butt until he took the spring stacks apart in the front and trimmed the ends down on the shorter springs. I forget how much. It did not suffer any noticable hieght. He used the Black Diamond 4" springs I have on the front of my 88 for a model after he noticed his springs were longer.

i need a vacuum diagram, and also a diagram or some suggestions on what i do and don't need, and what i can plug up on the carb. also what would be a good carb to upgrade to? mine is a stock one, my buddy has a edelbrock 4barrel 600 with electric choke and adapterplate since mine is a 2barrel, would it work? if not what should get if i come across some cash? getting it running better is my main concern right now..........also i did not use my seafoam yet, does anyone know what engine the diagram in the above post is?

The diagrams I linked you to was a discussion from a week or two ago I believe. Those are for the V-8 and I believe that they work on all AMC V-8s. That one is for an '86, the first pic was stock configuration and the second pic was what he felt needed to be kept( green lines). I have the edlbrock also and they work right out of the box, but mine runs extremely rich and I heed to get the kit to lean it out. GL...

kamikaze4x4nj

im going set my stock one up like the second diagram and see if it runs better, what size edelbrock carb are you running? did u use a 2 brl to 4brl adapter plate? was it and easy swap? how much better is it performance wise?

Keep your powder dry and look for a used softride type like skyjacker or superlift. I recently sold a newish 4 spring setup for less than $400.

Having ridden in a rig with a Superlift, I would not call that a softride type! :D I have Skyjacker and the ride (with RS9000's) is awesome and would get it again despite cost.

I have not ridden in a BJ's 4" lift rig but they are going to be a LOT cheaper than the skyjacker (unless you get it used). I have ridden in a BJ's 6" with nitro shocks (I think) and it was a very harsh ride. A lot of it has to do with shocks. Rancho puts on a buy 3 get 1 free once a year I think, or get 'em used.

Here's some info on lifts including manufacturers http://cfsja.org/tech/suspension/lifts.txt

I prefer to buy used lift springs as long as they are still good, because they are half the cost and already "broken" in where they are gonna be supper flexy compared to there stock counter parts. at least thats been my experience with used springs.

my first used lift set was skyjacker softride, very good springs.
