I am putting 3/4 ton chevy dana 44 rotors onto my 88 GW dana 44 front. Are the axle spindles the same size/diameter? I need 8 lugs to mathc the rear and the manual lockouts.

I believe they are the same. These are the larger diameter spindles that I noticed to be the same on the J20 outers as a wagoneer front. The caliber brakcet was located the caliper on the rotor different that the wagoneer axle but I don't know if that would be an issue for you.

there is a large and small spindle.sorry,i cant remember what used what. but to be on the safe side, you will need to swap everything from the knuckle out, including the spindle and caliper mounting bracket. the caliper is the same,so there is no need to disrupt your front brakes by swapping calipers.

WOW Panther! Where did you come up with a pic like that? Do you also have one of all the pieces of a Dana 44? :D

Yep, 74-76 FSJs used the small spindle (and 73-early 77 GMs).
78-91 FSJs used the larger spindle, which is the same as 78-87 GM 1/2 and 3/4 ton.
The calipers are the same, but the caliper mounts are different between 1/2 ton (and FSJ) and 3/4 ton GM. The 3/4 ton mount is "taller".
So if you have a 77 or newer FSJ, all you need is the 8 lug hub/rotor assembly, and the 3/4 ton caliper bracket and you're good.

Hmmmm..
Is the 3/4 ton rotor larger than the 1/2 ton? If so,wouldn't this be a pretty much bolt on set of bigger brakes for those who want more stopping power?

THANKS ALOT FROM EVERYONE. I TOOK APART THE CHEVY AND MY 88GW. tHE SPINDLES LOOK THE SAME I NEED TO SWAP THE CALIPER BRACKET, ROTOR AND HUB ASSEMBLY. NO PROBLEMS WITH THAT. IT WILL ALL GO TOGETHER SMOOTHLY IN TWO MONTHS. I WILL ALSO HVE THE CORPORATE 14 BOLT ON THE REAR WITH 35 OR 36 INCHERS ON. I WILL POST A PICTURE WHEN ITS COMPLETE.

not really. the rotor is bigger, but the caliper and pads are the same. also dont forget that 8 lugs come with the territory. youll need to match the rear and to run a 15" wheel on a 8 lug front you will need to do soe creative clearancing with a grinder.

I'm not opposed to 16" wheels, still think it would improve the brakes. Larger rotor += better mechanical advantage. Wonder if the rotors could be plugged and redrilled for 6 lugs?
