I use permatex #2 on the block and ultra-black on the pan. Gasket sticks to the block, silicone forms to the pan. I've had my pan off 5 times in the last month, still no leaks on the same gasket.

okay guys when you apply the ultra black do apply it on the complete pan or just the sides and not where the rubber seal goes in the front and rear

I do a thin film on the whole pan

I used a fiber type gasket with just some RTV were it connects with the rubber end seals. Seems to be doing just fine. You dont want to overtighten any kind of gasket though thats what usually makes them fail.

I used the cork gasket in Sep when I replaced the main seal. Clean both surfaces and get gasket cement and brush it on the gasket and oil pan. Allow to dry then place the gasket on the oil pan, making sure that you have cemented the correct side so all the holes match. This holds the gasket really well and allows you to place the oil pan to the block and bolt it up with out having to fool with a moving gasket. I only used some RTV at the front and rear of the pan and so far no leaks at all. Good luck
