Having cruise control is *nice* smile.gif

Here's the problems I came up with last night. I went to galveston east beach to test out my 4-wheel now that I have vacuum to the switch.

From what I understand, I don't have a 4WD light being its an 83... I think that's really ridiculous. Especially since viscuous coupler's aren't cheap. Any way, I flip the switch, from almost a dead stop, and I hear the hiss. I wait about 10 seconds, and put it in drive, then reverse, then drive again, just to make sure I hear a clunk or two to safely assume I'm locked in.

From what I assume, the 229's range shifter is a little different than the 228's was. Apparently you can't shift into LOW range unless your front disco axle is engaged. Well, I was at a small roll and in Neutral and I was pulling on the lever and MAN I had to pull *HARD* to get that thing up into LOW. I popped the plastic flag end of the handle off getting it into gear and it grinded just a little bit. That worries me. With my 2.72 gears, my crawl ratio seriously blows!

Today, I was going to get a new compressor and on the way home when I pulled into the driveway, my dome lights came on. I checked all the switches on the doors and the headlight switch and they make the domes light up just a hair more. This leads me to believe that the door buttons and the headlight knob are good. What the heck is keeping my interior lights on? It's just the two lights on the floor and the two dome lights. I pulled the fuse until I can figure it out. :(

Snakeyes,

On my 88GW the door plunger type switch was sticking in both the on and off position. These switches just unscrew and you should be able to see if the switch is the problem by manually touching the two wires togther to see if it activates the lights.

Hey Snake the thing that comes to mind is the door switches. Check the back of the switches where the wires connect. Check for wires touching together and corrosion and such. These switches are not the greatest quality either. I believe some of the wireing for the rear doors goes under the carpet, there could be a problem there. ;) The door switches and switch on the light switch are the only two things that control these lights. Its gota be switches or wireing. Good luck! :D

Hey Snake

I had a bad ground on the tail lights on the Cheby S-10 I had. This would make the dome light come on from back feeding.

Some how the juice would wind its way backwards to a ground. This made the light come on. It took me a few days to notice I didn't have good tail lights. I fixed the ground then the light stayed off.

I've seen trailer lights act funky this way too.

Just somthing to think abought .

I think I should have mentioned *when* the lights kicked on.

I backed into my driveway, and when the back wheels went up the little step-up from the street (you know, that 1 inch rise from the street) they kicked on.

Ummm

You dont by chance have a rear cargo switch back by the tail gate that is turend on do you?

Maybe the compresser rolled back and hit it.

Speaking from experiance on this one. I had a 5 ton floor jack do the same thing.

More than likely you have a short under the carpeting. I've had this same problem. It gets really nasty under there with water and corrosion. If you don't want to rip the carpeting you will need to remove the seat belt torx bolt to gain access. These can be really nasty to get out.

I found the electrical gremlin.. there is a relay on a switch that goes to my KC lights that had a loose wire... I jiggled it and everything was better... now I have to figure out what the PO disconnected to make the KC's not work.. he said it ate fuses.

Anyone can help with the Transfer-case thing? Wish I knew something on it a little more...

snakeyes: neutral... slight roll... yeah, that should do the trick. try doing it while at a standstill. i can usually lock it into 4LO while in neutral with my foot on the brake.

i had this problem when i first got the wag: the little shaft that connects to the range lever was too long. you might have to take that thingy off and adjust it some before lo range will become easily obtainable for you. i couldn't even get into 4HI for a while cuz my switches were so messed up. it's always the little things...
