Once again thanks to fearless heroism of my fellow FSJ'ers the rust rhino has been saved from the curb. You were right Bob it was the gauge. I didn't know that the power ran through the gauge. That seems like a design flaw to me. Why didn't they just split the power off that line going to the gauge? That way if the gauge went bad it wouldn't kill all the power. Thanks again Bob.

Glad to help. That is the way ampmeters were done for years and years. With the higher amp draw of cars in the 70's and newer, the meters could not handle the load. One solution to this is to use a shunt type meter which only reads the magnetic flow of the power. The problem with these is the remote dash mount of the gauge from the power supply. This was cured, but is expensive, so that is why newer rigs have a volt meter. In the next couple of years look for the standard voltage in cars to become 42 volts so even more electric accessories can be used.
