How do you wire a waggie for a 4 wire harness? white is to ground, green and yellow are to the turn signals. That leaves one wire for both the stop and tail lights. Something is suppose to get doubled up here right? what gos with what?

PS. I checked the technical libary section on this but it didn't get into 4 wire much.

Mine has white for ground yellow and green for turn/break lights, and brown for running lights.
The turn and break light is one and the same filiment in the bulb on most trailers I've seen.
I flip on the 4 ways and head lights at the same time and walk back and make sure all is fine when alone. This lets you know all is well.
I'd say just find the hot wires on the Jeep for the turn/break lights and splice them in.
Then find the hot wire with the lights on.

"Newer" wags (at least 84 and up) are 5 wire setup meaning that they have seperate brake and turn lights. You need to get a converter that converts the 5 wire setup to the 4 wire setup (normal trailer). The stock trailer package on the wag has the convertor built in. It is a black box behind the bumper that plugs right into the stock wiring harness.

This is what I finally ended up doing. I got one from Mal-Wart for $13, AutoZone had a better looking one for $12, but I didn't think it was worth the effort to bring back the first one for the extra buck smile.gif The thing apparently has some electronics in it to do what you can't with wire tricks.

while we are on the issue. Mine has two trailer plugs. one is the standard 4 wire the other I believe is like maybe 5 or 6 but it is also flat. What ever used a large(twice as big as a standard) flat connector. I can't think of anything.

Hi:
Here's an easy way out !!!!
Go to U-Haul and purchase their $3 adaptor!!
It will plug right into your waggy!!!

Any chance the extra wires could have been designated for use with trailer brakes? Just a hunch...

I guess it is WudreauxTWW. I've never seen a trailer with that kind of connection. Usually they are round when you have brakes. Just never seen a plug like that.
It is 5 wire.

Tucker,
The converter I got looks like a regular 4 pin, but has 5 wires going into it. how many wires AND pins does yours have?
Solar,
Wish you'd mentioned that a while ago. I tried, but couldn't find one. Didn't try U-haul.
