View Full Version : Dash gauges not working (sorry)

Sorry because I know that this has been hashed out before, but I couldn't find it. Anyway I remember reading through a thread where someone had no gas, temp or oil gauges, but had amps, and one of the solutions was a dash voltage regulater. Well, my '77 has the exact same problem as described above, and I want to fix it. The local NAPA dosen't show a listing for a dash voltage regulater, so now I'm even more confused. Does my '77 have a CVR? If so, where is it, how do I replace it, and what's a part number? Or is the problem something else like the circuit board? The gas, oil and temp all just sit to the far left; they don't move at all. Thanks.

The CVR is built in to the bad of the temp gauge, and possibly can be rebuilt by you.

when you were at the auto parts store, did you ask for a CVR or a temp gauge? try again and ask for both.

It can be rebuilt/repaired, but you'll have to remove it from the cluster.

none of my gauges worked, except for my oil-pressure and temp gauge (ran out of fuel on occasion, and learned how to gauge my speed according to rpms, never got stopped for speeding smile.gif ), and they weren't all that accurate....
so i bought another instrument cluster from a board member, and they all work now.....guess that might be an option for you if you can find one....
or you might wanna pull the cluster and clean out the connections back there, my old connector plug (it's the big round one) was pretty corroded.....

I really didn't want to hear that it was on the back on the cluster because I took the cluster out and replaced a bunch of bulbs and fixed all the plastic gauge covers that had fallen down - before I got it running! So I didn't know that oil, temp and gas wern't working. So, do they all get their power from the temp gauge CVR? Or, if I fix that one, do I just have to move onto fixing the other gauges? Not sure I understand fully.

Check the pins on the back... mine were all loose... I carefully soldered them and all my guages work... I did this in 97...

Clean all connections good with elect contact cleaner and use dielectric grease on all connections....you'll be amazed!!!
