Cruise Control Regulator / Vacuum Leak

1981 Jeep Wagoneer. V-8 360. Automatic (that's what I have to tell them each time at the parts house)

Under the hood on the left front fender is the Cruise Control Regulator. It is connected to 2 Vacuum Lines, 2 speedometer cables and a couple of electrical plugs. 2 questions:

1. If I unplug the 2 vacuum lines and reconnect a vacuum pump to one side and plug the other side of the Cruise Control Regulator should it hold vacuum pressure??? Mine does not hold vacuum pressure.

2. If this unit should hold vacuum pressure how difficult would it be for me to repair?????

The fact that it don't work surprises you? I have never seen one that works! sorry I can't help. I have the same sorry unit on my Winnebago and it doesn't work either so I bought an aftermarket unit.

Cruise control works at speed but should the regulator hold pressure when I am testing it with a vacuum pump?
