I tried NAPA, the dude had no clue. Does anyone have a part number or some other way to track down a 15-ohm resistor wire for the alternator?

Thanks!

You will have to buy the resistance wire in bulk form and then use an ohm meter to get 15 ohms. Another way to do it is get a 15 ohm resistor and put it inline

Do I really need to even use one? And if so, would an inline one be a radio-shack thing? I thought resistors got really hot and may start a fire?

I'm going to go ram my head into the wall. I'll be right back...

I'm in need of some too. Need to find out where to get some at.

I eliminated my resistor wire and have no problem. I use an Accell Super coil, so I dont know if that handles the extra voltage better or what.

im not using one either.my jeep was a fire damaged mess when i got it,so i had to rewire everyting. i used plain old wire for the ignition and aternator and to this date(3 yrs later) have not had any prollems.not that i know of,at least smile.gif its always worked fine,no fires or parts going bad too fast,or anything like that. im also using an accel coil, but not the super-just the stock replacement one. i haent always had it,tho, for prolly the first year and a half or so i just used a stock coil.

Looks like I'll proceed forward without the resistor wire, at least until I can find one in a junkyard. Maybe I'll just put a 10 ga. wire on it.

Thanks for the help!
