Bell housing is different, amc/jeep 727's are particular to amc/jeep. and I'm pretty sure all 727's are 23 spline output.

The 727's that are in Jeep have a housing cast specificly for Jeep. The internals will be the same except the tork converter and the taill shafts. hope this helps. tongue.gif

Would it be crazy to swap internals? Or start the search for another disappointment. I just keep running into alot of trans, that won't do the trick.

Why swap interals? If you are up that why not just rebuild it? Do you have some hard barts tore up? If not goe to napa the kit is about $80 unless you have any connections. I got mine though an emploee for $35 his cost.

Never tried an automatic I'm not the greatest mech.(I know there is no such thing as a left handed screw driver) But my budget has help me learn a few things. Is it real complicated.

I know this sound like a napa commercial but its not. They carry a manual that covers the 727 and one other tranny modle. It is real specific and easy to work along with (unlike the haynes manuals) the only special tool it took was some snap ring pliers. I made due with what I had for every thing else

Well this sounds like it might be the solution at least I would know it would bolt back in. I found this 83 for a sweet deal and po told me 3 rd was getting bad it runs good till it gets warm then it slips in and out. I would tend to think it couldn't be real tore up. About how long did it take you?

It takes longer too pull it and put it back in than to rebuild it. I could be done in a weekend if you work consistant. I havn't worked consistant in 8 years wife and two wonderful distractions. they are 2+7.

About 6 years ago me and the misses along with our 7 year old distraction refurbished a 1978 cj5. He was slowing us down till I told him to take the spare off, He's helping ever since (or taring things apart). Then 3 years ago our two other distractions showed up -girls- they have their own tools daddy's are of limits. Cj had to go, now we need another project but little jeeps won't work.
Had to get a big one, this tanny deal might be a couple of weekends. Thanks for the info.

Growing up I never thought I'd have to do that. I had to talk my wife into taking a ride in it I"m not sure if she's sold yet, maybe when its operational and we are camping in some remote location she'll like it better, but i'm sure she won't let on.
