i want to change my rebound clips on my 63" springs but before i tear into the spring i was wondering how they are assembled(the clip)? the bottom looks like a rivit of sorts. will i need some kind of special tool for the replacement of the clip or is there a screw or something on the topside of it that i can do with regular tools?

well i tore them apart today. the pins that hold the rebound clips on are welded on the leaf. my next question is do i leave them or should i make a set to put on? they only give me about an inch of seperation between the leafs and i want more flex. i could make another set to give me about 2" of seperation. that would mean that i would have to drill out the old pins make new ones and weld them on the leaf and then i would have about 2" of sep. would this be a good idea? someone has had to have done something like this before.
You sure they are welded on PJ?
Looks like a friction rivit on mine.
I'll snap a pic tomorrow at work.
I do not think welding anything to a leaf spring is a good idea, might destroy the temper or something.

well i took a big punch and 3.5 sledge to the pins and they didnt move lol. yeah im getting a consensus to leave them alone lol. everyone says you get enough flex without modifying them so i guess ill leave them alone.:D
also i heard you should use some kind of special paint for the leafs? could i use primer or would regular paint work if i let them cure really well or let them cure and oil inbetween the leafs before i put them in?

Is there a way to put those teflon "glides" on the ends of each leaf without drilling or maybe drilling is O.K.?

I think regular paint is fine but there are some cool teflon pads you can get to go between the leaves...I've yet to find the old post here or get an answer from anyone about what/where/who/etc. My next move is going to be to call someone like Alcan. They've been real helpful with questions in the past and I'm sure they'd help on this. Just ask them for advice when rebuilding your existing leaf springs.
