am i backwards!?!?

on the tailgate window regulator are the gears supposed to be facing in our out at you? mine are out and i notice i dont have a good seal with my weather stripping on the outside...

also i hear 1 big CLUNK when i put the window up, right at the part where the tip of the window slides into the top of the weather striping, is this 1bad or 2really bad?
