One of the Grand Wagoneers I have been picking parts off at the local u-pull boneyard has a set of "Jeep" locking hubs on the front axle. I am showing my Wagoneer ignorance but I was not aware Jeep ever made locking hubs. Does anyone know who made them for Jeep? Judging by the instrument cluster and steering wheel this appears to be a late 80's Grand Wagoneer. Are the hubs worth pulling?

Look like these? They are a Warn Hub. Nothing special except it says Jeep on them ;)

My informant told me when I bought my brand new ’80 CJ5 that jeep made locking hubs stock equipment because of the mpg war of the early ‘80’s. That way they could legally list a better mpg with the hubs disengaged. So jeep had their name put on them. I have the stock jeep hubs made by warn on my ’80 CJ5. The ’79’s had optional warn hubs. The two identical 304V8’s of those two years had a difference in their rated mpg because of the hubs.

Thanks for the information. I knew they had to be someone elses hubs (like most everything else on these vehicles). At least they used Warn - should be decent hubs.

Crazy Jeepman, did you sell that pair on eBay? I'd surely be interested in buying a new set right now.
