This past weekends activities left the old wag the worse for wear. Instead of bandaiding the old 401 toghether, I have decided that the time has come for a rebuild. However...in the mean time and between time I still wanna wheel the old girl.
Sooooo, the plan is to get a junkyard 360, drop it in place, and use and abuse as neccesary till the 401 is completed. Which btw should take quite a while :( ...no luck at winning the lotto.
Other than pulling the valve covers, oil pan, and taking a good look see inside, is there anything special I should be aware of as far as AMC motors are concerned?? Any weird telltale signs of wear/damage I should be on the lookout for on the junkyard 360? Will the 360 bolt right in place of the 401. I heard that all parts but the flywheel are interchangeble?..carb, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, etc... Does it matter what tranny the donor vehicle has, will it bolt up to the TH400?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm quite eager to get the old girl back on the trails. The new shock mounts, springs and such worked great last weekend. She flexes great and there's no rubbing with only 4" of lift, some "clearancing", and a true 36" tire, steady as can be going down the trails smile.gif Thanks in advance guys..
