I was talking to a educated mechanic friend of mine, asking him about swapping a Chevy 350 into my 75 J10 and he gave me this idea...
Take a Chevy small-block 400, swap in a crank from a 350 and 6 inch rods... basically make a 378 stroker motor out of it. I should get gobs of torque out of it... especially through midrange.
Any suggestions? Feedback?

Longer stroke will make more torque. A 383 (350 with a 400 crank) will be a better torque engine than a 377. The 377 would be a good high-rpm engine because of the shorter stroke.

i plan on putting a 383 in the 77. saw where a 383 put out like 450 ft/lb of torque at 4500 and 430 hp at 5500. should be a stump puller.

You can also do this with an AMC 360. Back in the day, AMC racers used a 401 crank in a 360 block to get 385 cubic inches.

Although you can swap the AMC cranks, there is no simple piston solution that doesn't cost a fortune.
