Behold:

The PO says it's out of a late '70's GM but the BOM is worn away. It needs a turn with the flapwheel and then some paint but everything seems to turn easily. Anybody have an extra spring perch? The old one was cut off.
It'll be going in my '86 GW:

If you don't know, I've set my '86 up with a 350/SM465 combo but the 465 is a 2WD so I'll be needing a new mainshaft plus a pass drop 205 or something.
There are several 14bolts and D70's at the local PullaPart for about $75. So I'll pick up one of those soon enough.
New wheels, tires...
Driveshafts...
A Hi-steer arm or 2....
Rear shackle-flip...
A little brake work....
Still need a gas tank....
yada yada....

Sweet. Hope it works out good. What gears does it have? Now all I need to do if find my front drivers drop high pinion 60 for my rig (yea, good luck...lol)I have to be backwards and use a drivers drop t-case.
Humm....I'm lookin for a 70 rear, but I am looking for a specific one. I am looking for one of the smooth bottom 70's. Best info I have found says they come in early 80's diesel F250s. The housing is just all smooth, not really any casting ribs, it just kinda looks like a funnel with a yoke sticking out of it...lol If you happen across one of those let me know! I am not haveing mutch luck finding one.

I think this one has 4.10's in it but I'm not sure. Haven't popped the cover yet.
I've never seen a smoothe bottom 70. The ones at PAP were in '70's Ford and Dodge.

thats one tough looking waggy.
Hey Folks,
I am going to try to make Bama his missing spring perch.
Can some of you check the width of the perch on the tube side for me?
GM D60 as posted above.
Thanks,

Thanks Tad.
What are you guys doing for 3" perches vs. 2.5" FSJ springs?

Pretty sure the early d60 perches are 2.5" aren't they? I don't think they went to 3" front springs until the diff changed to the driver's side, or later yet.

About 2 15/16"

I would think so Elliot but I do not have one to look at handy.
I did find this picture of Dr. Bob's Dodge D60...
http://www.drbob.tqhosting.com/cherokee/d60_21.jpg
...that looks the same width as FSJ springs.
Then this one in a search...
Sorry that was so big, looks differnt on the work puter
...would it even make a difference since his springs are 2.5" wide?

The bible says the GM perches are 3". I'm gonna assume it makes no difference as long as the spring plate is tight and the centering pin is there.
OK, one 3" wide perch, 4" long and about 1.5" up off the tube coming up.

Thank you Tad, for all your help.
BTW, please PM me the cost. Shipping to 35215.
Done, PM sent.
I'll toss up a pic tonight when I get home.
Hope that attachment thing works.
Cool, it does, I'm just not very good at it.
You asked for it, you got it...

3" wide x 4" long, 1 15/32" off the tube to the top.

What I was meaning was that the D60 perches are for 2.5" springs. Sounded like you were worried the FSJ springs wouldn't work well on the perches. Looks like you gots it all worked out.

what are you doing for steering? I'm still debating a draglink or full hydro.

At this point, I'll be sticking with a draglink. Hydraulics are going to have to wait until I can fund it. I've got to get other stuff done first.

Nice looking perch, Tad. I have a feeling you'll have a few new friends after posting that pic!
