Any takers on this would be greatly appreciated. My J-10 doesn't have the original engine, duh. Yesterday, I ran into the problem of asking for a '76 part, but soon found out this ain't a '76 engine. The Code is 101-Z-26. That fourth digit is a 'z' as in 'zoo.' :confused:
Thanks. (Links are welcome too)

Yours code tag reads:
1=1977
01=Jan
Z=401 cid
26=day of the month

But..."engine" ID codes are really sort of a misnomer when it comes to AMC V8's cause all it really tells you is the info of the motor that the valve cover "originally came on". It doesn't mean the covers didn't come of another 304/360/401 and got swaped over in the last 30 years or so :(
Look at the block behind the motor mounts. It'll have the CID cast into the block 304/360 or 401. That'll at least tell you what size the motor is.
Of course unless it's a factory replacement block which won't have the numbers cast into the block. Folks at AMC had a sense humor.
Ahhh the 70's...before mandatory p*ss tests. I remember those days...I think? ;)

What parts did you buy for a 76 motor that didn't work on a 77?

I was gonna buy an oil pressure sensor but the new part and my current were as different as apples and oranges. The guy at Advance A/P asked for the EIC and I told him I'd get back to him. I've seen where it said 360 on the block. So it's a '77 engine, and its been rebuilt, I can tell by the freeze plugs. Thanks for the help. :cool:

Either when your motor got rebuilt they added an oddbal sensor or your parts house guy can't read parts books...because all the stock oil press sensors are the same on all AMC motors regardless of 258/360/401 from at least 1973/74 up to and including 1985. Numbers changed in 1986.
AMC p/n is 321 2004 for the 73-85 oil pressure sensor.
