Just a question about what capabilities are required. I'm a novice offroader, and by the time of the invasion next year I believe my 82 W/T will have 33" tires and a rear locker, but otherwise be stock. Any reason I wouldn't be able to make the trail? Any big obstacles have paths to get around them?

I'm really looking forward to going next year, but I wan't to make sure that I won't be the rolling roadblock!

You'll have no problems with the trails around Ouray with a bone stock FSJ, let alone with the mods you have planned. The exception would be the one difficult part of Poughkeepsie, in which your mods should help you get up 'n over.

Poughkeepsie has a sweet spot for sheet metal. But 33's and a locker should be the right stuff to get through.

Don't fret it you will do fine. Ouray '06 was my third wheeling trip ever and I had a blast... Other than the vapor lock :banghead: Best advise I can give you is to keep at least one eye on the road because the dropoffs will temp your vehicle quickly... Burn these images into your mind so that you keep an eye on the trail!

Everyone understands what you are going through because they have been there before so don't worry about blocking the trail.

Are the boys going to be old enough to make it next year?

Flint, I am thinking that I might take the week before and do Moab and then hit Ouray on the way back. What do you think? Are you doing Moab next year?

Yes, but never in the summer, say between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Just too dang hot for us. We do Moab Spring and Autumn, sometimes Winter if we get tempted. I have been on the slick rock in the snow and that gets tricky sometimes. Then, up to the mountains in the Summer.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting in over my head. I rod with a friend on Mt. Blanca and quickly decided I needed more experience and a more capable rig before tackling that one.

I'm looking forward to the trip and meeting you all in person next July!
