View Full Version : Shattered Rear Window... weak panel

Last week, I tried to roll the back window up... it seemed stuck... it was shattered - held together by the tint!

I pulled the carpet and panel off - to start the removal/replacement. I noticed that the access panel was bent in - toward the glass.

It was about at this point that I remembered that my insurance covered broken glass - with no deductable! (treated Bushwood to upgraded insurance since becoming daily driver)

The guy at the glass shop was very familiar with GWs "I've replaced dozens of tailgate windows on those things..." He said that access panel is too weak for a fold down tailgate - on that gets used for standing and sitting! He said that the panel deflects and touches the glass - crack.

Lesson: Don't stand on the center of the gate. Don't slam the gate to get it to shut when stuffed with cargo

On the upside, new glass is tint-free (P.O. had used the purple crap) with defrost parts intact. And the window cruises up and down!

Any time I'm loading heavy stuff, I lay boards across the tailgate to better distribute the load.

Glad it worked out for you! smile.gif
