I thought I read not long ago that one of us here had installed an aftermarket heater &/or AC unit under the dash to blow cool on his kids in back.
Anyone remember who that was, or what donor car it came from, or where I can find it after market??

I'm thinking that If I can find an electric heater at the yard, and can fit it under the dash (pass side has much room) I can eliminate the heater core and all that.(read on)

Is there any reason that I SHOULD NOT remove the core? Its prolly cloged or pluged up, so i dont think ill miss it much if I remove it anyway.

If I can safely and smartly ( If you all tell me I can without hurting my 20yr old motor  ) remove the core and hoses, I should have enuff room for a second battery.
Has anyone done this,in this location? If so, what did you use to suport the second battery?
Im thinking the second battery would be nice to have durring a long night with the "new" heater, fog lights, rear defrosters, wippers, radio and headlights on. Not to mention the assorted off road & camping accessories I'll be getting myself for Xmas. =)

Any and all ideas will be greatly appriciated.

I know Bob Barry installed a/c ducting to the back for his kids, but he didn't add to the a/c system hardware. It looked really nice, too: he had a booster fan in the back of the console to get air moving back there.

I'd keep the heater core and flush it out, since it's an integral part of the engine's cooling system. As far as mounting a second battery goes, IRBob did this in Woof I by chopping out part of the pass. side fenderwell and fabbing a box and brackets there....check his web site for pics.

The heater core helps the cooling system very little but you should Keep the flow through the hoses in working order…

Prolly just as easy and cheap to just put in a new heater core?
I doubt that an electric heater under the dash is going to do much to de-fog the windshield either.
I think you may be trying to over-engineer this smile.gif

I had two batteries in my '82 Cherokee Laredo, 2nd was at the front of the driver's side fender well dropped into a box where the washer resevoir was.

I agree with Joe. Why mess with an electric heater? I would start by getting the factory one in shape. More efficient using some of that waste heat. Plus looking at an electric with much output what about the added strain on the alternator and wiring?? If it is broke - FIX IT! :D
