nice design: support a radiator from the top with two tabs soldered onto the rounded corners. nice. how many of you have the tabs broken off or seperated from the radiator?

here's one cure:

get a 19" long piece of 4" angle iron (or aluminium). drill two holes 16" apart on one leg of the angle. bolt it under the radiator using the two bolts on the crossmember beneath the radiator. use a pad on top of the "shelf" you just made to support the radiator. make sure you check the measurements first, YMMV. you will also have to cut the corners to clear the power steering box and the hoses.

have fun!!!

thats a real good idea. my new modine went about 2 yrs before it popped. i like your solution

thanx. it was a fairly fast mod. if i were to do it over i would not make the piece 19" long. maybe 17.5, and taper the sides instead of making them square, so there would be no need to notch around the stuff in the upper corners. maybe next time!

I JB welded the last one and it's stilling holding strong. Just make sure it's a good clean surface and it will hold.

I would put some sort of rubber insulation between your shelf and your radiator. Vibration and flex will make a quick hole in that thin metal tank.

I have never had a problem with the mounting attachments on my radiators.

jeepguzzi: yes, i know about the pad. i mentioned it in the description in the first post. i used some thick felt padding, but i dont remember if i used the 1" or 1/2" stuff. i just grabbed what i had left over from either the headliner project or the hoodliner project.
