Has anyone done anything with their door hinges to make the doors removable, like on CJs and Wranglers?

I said removable like a baby jeep, meaning I will need to put them back on.

I am going to weld 3/16 keystock to the body "framing" the hinges so that they align perfectly everytime. Then I am making a set of half doors too.
I don't know of anyone that has modified the hinge like you say to make them removable like a baby jeep. I would think that FS doors are much heavier than the baby jeeps and since we don't have exposed hinges like the baby jeeps it doesn't make sense.

I'm sure you could come up with something but the problem is that the doors are so heavy that you'd need a beefy hinge and that would take up a lot of room as well. i used to remove the inner bolt from the door and just run the 4 outer bolts instead of all 6. it was easier to get to but you'd still need 2 people to get them off.

i built my half doors some 4-5 years ago, still got the originals so if/when it gets cold(which hasnt gotten to cold out here in the last 2 years) i could put the full doors back on for some sort of warmth;)

But if you are planning on running half doors, you could do alot of triming in the door and loose a lot of weight. And at that point you could proabably mount them with CJ type hinges on the outside of the body with a couple of backing plates to beef up the sheet metal a bit.

I am sure when you take the window stuff off the door lightens up quite a bit. I don't think I would run any hinges on the outside though. I would think you are just asking for the sheet metal to be wobbled out by the bolts. I don't think the geometry of the door opening will work with a CJ hinge. The CJ hinge only works when the door is WAFER THIN. Once the door geometry gets fatter (like our FSJ's), the hinge geometry of the CJ hinge won't even allow the door to open AT ALL. I imagine the rear of the door will bind.
What I would/will do is run the half doors with half the number of bolts connecting the stock hinge to the cab. Probably two on the top and two on the bottom. Should be plenty... especially when the striker and latch are used to hold the other side.

Haven't looked at it, but can you remove the hinge pin and swap in a clevis pin? Then you could use two sets of doors, full & 1/2 set up for a quick swap.

That is a good idea!

Unfortunately I believe the hinge pin is inside the body

Up inside the front door jamb, yep... that sucks.

why not just remove the doors in the warm months and replace them in the colder months. i want the half doors too but i dont see many ways it can be done. just wear your belts at all times and hinge a bar connected to the roll cage that swings out when you want to get out.
