Okay here we go again. Seems I replace a part once a week. Well I was driving home today and the Wag was kind of running diffrent. Not bad. It had a little more of a miss than usual. When I pulled into my drive way and put it into park it idle up around 1100 rpms. No miss anymore and was very smooth. Popped the hood and could not find anything wrong. Turned it off and then restarted it and it idled like crap. Well I instantly started looking at vaccum lines. Well come to find out one of the bolts on the vaccum advance had popped out and the advace was sticking out. I pushed it in and the high idle came back. I put the bolt back in and had to reset my timing. It was way advanced. It has always been loose. Well I had to reset the carb and the idle because when I did the 4bbl upgrade I set it like it was. Always had a bit of a miss. Well the miss came back after a little bit, more like it was reving up and down. Diffrence of about 100rpms. Well I am obviously thinking the advance is messed up and it is time for a new distributor. What do you all think. Does the advance make it run like that. Just wondering what everyone else has experienced.

Thanks in Advace

I had to replace my dist. last week because of the advance but my advance was toast. If your advance is still holding a vacuum and has a full range of motion I would not replace it. Check it with a vacuum pump. Check it running with a pump and see how much advance you really get. I saw no difference in idle when I disconnected the advance but saw a major change when it was on. High RPM power was much much better.

The advance is getting vaccum. I am really questioning now the internal components of the distributor. Springs and such. Since I pushed the vaccum advance back in it has a lot more power. It is amazing. But now I have hesitation off the line and a little miss. I am going to replace the distributor tonight since it is a cheap fix and see where that takes me. I saw a post where you were getting hesitation also after putting in your new distributor. What was that? are you still getting that? Thanks Brad any info you have is greatly appreciated.
